Having created a Python program for “poor man’s mass surveillance”, that given a Twitter account, or set of accounts, grabs the latest tweets from that account and analyzes each tweet for mentions, I thought it might be interesting to see what buzz there is about various companies.
So I started with IBM Rational, and recursively collected all mentions from that account, to the third level, that is, I collected IBM Rational’s “friends-of-friends-of-friends”, where “friend” is defined as a “mention” either a hashtag or another twitter account.
That recursive process resulted in some 100.000 nodes, about 70% of them twitter users, the rest hashtags, and almost 200.000 relationships (“links”) between these nodes.
The image above shows the most influencial nodes in the network.
#Bigdata, #Cloud and #Mobile are thus the most buzzed about concepts in the IBM Rational social network.
