Bottom line: the extrinsic markers, such as academic scores, certifications, job titles, etc matter relativily little compared to the intrinsic factors such as character and ethics.

It’s much easier and cheaper to teach skills to someone lacking them but posessing the right character, than changing character of someone with the right skills but with a grandiose or otherwise faulty personality.
